The Irish Dance Academy was founded in 1997 as a non-profit youth organization to foster the love of Irish Dance, culture, and tradition. Since its inception, the I.D.A.A. has been the premier dance academy in Anchorage, Alaska. The I.D.A.A. prides itself on its community outreach and fosters the dance’s spirit and love from our newest beginner to our most seasoned champion.

We welcome children age 5 to 18.

Annual registration of $100 per student, $125 per family plus monthly tuition of $100 a month. Tuition includes access to our online library of learning videos that can be accessed at any time throughout the season. Intro to Irish Dance students will participate in 2-45 minute lessons each week.

Dance shoes (beginners only need soft shoes which cost approximately $50 new or dancers can buy used) are costs to be expected in the first year.

As dancers progress, they need to purchase hard shoes, poodle socks (girls) and rent a costume for performances and/or competition.

Intro to Irish Dance students have two 45 minute classes per week. As dancers progress, longer classes and additional practices are offered. All dancers are encouraged to practice at home between classes.

Tuition is not prorated for missed classes. Dancers are encouraged to attend every class so that they can progress with their class. If you are not able to attend a class reach out to Ms. Miriam to see if you may attend another class for make-ups. You may also access the online video library to practice.

No. Although we have dancers who do compete through our affiliation with the An Daire school of Irish Dance, many of our dancers choose to dance for recreation only.

We accept new students in Intro classes year round. We promote recruitment at the start of spring and fall semester. Our dance class schedule follows the Anchorage School District calendar.

Dancers must wear black shorts and a black t-shirt or tank top, white socks, and appropriate dance shoes. Intro dancers may wear ballet slippers, jazz shoes, or even sneakers for the first month. All returning dancers must have appropriate Irish dance shoes at all classes. Dancers also need to bring a water bottle to class.
